The Rumour Mill

The rumours appear to be flying thick and fast.

All this baseless speculation is most annoying. Not only are the media beating up stories about what Brash might or might not do in three years time, but people I've talked to have speculated that Helen Clark might step down mid term to pursue a career with the UN. A non political source with no real skill also speculated that Jeanette is demanding a Cabinet position, and Rod Donald wants to share it as joint cabinet leader. These wild rumours seem to be unfounded, and I have no real idea how they start. I find that thought as likely as the off-hand comment from some-one that Cullen was going to be replaced by some new blood and the Maori Party would pick up the Immigration Portfolio. Winston was likely to get Deputy Leader. It's all rubbish. Surely.

Well yes, ZenT, you are right.
But look how on election night when the media and other lefties began their destabalising campaign about Don Brash by speculating, rumour-monging, etc, that he was on his way out, etc.
Therefore, similar speculation about Helen Clark's future after she almost lost the unloseable election , how Cullen blundered with his budget, etc, is only fair game.
What's sauce for the goose, etc.
If the left are going to play this game, the right will have to as well.
Of course, what is needed is focussing on the big issues.
For example, I see business confidence is plummeting and that is before the Greens get into government.
Talking about the Greens (whom David F today reveals are against exporting apples to Australia) I wonder now that Nandor is out, will they still be as keen on "joint leaderships?" :)

Darren, I agree. What's sauce for the goose... is exactly where I am at.

With Frog Blog doing their bit to push the Brash Gone By Lunchtime rumours, I was wondering why they are so silent on the huge (rumoured by unreliable sources) fights between Rod and Jeanette over how hard they push for a stronger role in the coalition government...

...Why the silence? Surely its better to just front up and say all parties have their little tiffs....and JF is not going to demand sole cabinet seat...and all those other baseless rumours.

And maybe Helen Clark needs to call an emergency press conference to clear the air right now and end the speculation that Cullen has been demoted. Its very de-stablising to the markets wondering if Hawkins is the next Finance Minister...

Err, just to be clear: This post is satirical.

Thank the Lord, Zen Tiger.
I just heard Philip Field was going to be Treasurer. El Jefe, apparantly, needs a few more dollars for his property investments.
Budget surplus? Gone by lunchtime!
And George Hawkins, he's the next Parliamentary speaker!
We all know what a fantastic debator he is.
And Judith Tizard, she gets Wimmins Affairs, of course!!! :)

I've heard those very rumours myself Darren. Of course, there must be little substance to them, but nevertheless, they are out there. Have you any idea how they start? For instance, there was this ridiculous thing about Brash resigning within days after the election. Running in the papers no less! Incredible! It was right under the article that a prominent Green party member had arranged for a multi-million dollar tax grant for a certain wind mill project. Or maybe that was an undisclosed email that some-one swore they had seen, but couldn't actually produce it when I demanded further evidence. Apparently there computer was stolen that very night...ridiculous!

No I hadn't Phil, but it does have the feel of truth to it. Incredible. Hopefully we'll have a press statement soon to confirm or deny those rumors. The longer the silence, the more likely it would seem.
