The joys of state monopoly

Here is what happens when you run state monopolies, "apoteket" is the Swedish state pharmacy monopoly and "systemet" is the state alcohol monopoly. The latter is coincidentally run by the Prime Minister's wife.

Systemet bribery lawyer charged with corruption
The lawyer who is representing the managing director of Vin-Trägårdh, the wine supplier which has been accused of bribing managers of Systembolaget stores, has himself been charged with serious corruption.
Apoteket "spread government propaganda"
"We had an inquiry from the finance department about whether it would be possible to distribute information about the budget proposals. We did not consider at the time that it could have been interpreted as Apoteket taking a political position," said Björk.
Of course this goes on with non-state monopolies too, but at least then it's someone else's money. Ideally get rid of monopolies.

That there's a mighty rare beastie...in almost every case you can name, the "non-state monopoly" came into existence or was sustained by government interference with the market...
