Sean Plunkett suspended?

One News reported Sean Plunkett has been suspended for his interview yesterday morning with Green Party leader Jeanette Fitzsimons (Too Right has more details).

Adolf posted on the nature of the interview.

AL:

I've posted e-mail links to Radio NZ over at NZPundit, and am recommending a flood of (polite) e-mails of protest and blog posts critical of the decision.

I'm no fan of Plunkett's style, but it looks like you only get suspended when you go hard on a lefty.

Bad look I'd say. Can't imagine the Greens wanted this level of reaction!

I'd like to make quite clear that the Greens neither lodged a formal complaint nor asked that disciplinary action be taken against Mr Plunket. While we felt his treatment of the issue was unbalanced - he was much more aggressive with Jeanette than Gerry Brownlee - we would never have suggested that an interviewer should be benched during an election campaign as a result. I personally think RNZ's decision is a rather odd overreaction.

I heard that interview and, speaking as a critic of Plunkett's style, I think it's absolute nonsense to say he was any more agressive with Jeanette than he is with anyone else. And it's absurd to say he gave Gerry a easy ride.

And could it be that the "agression" flowed when Jeanette became highly evasive - and IMO outright dishonest - when she said she had never even implied that National was directly involved in the production, distribution and financing of the leaflets. That's a flat out lie, Frog - and Plunkett should have nailed her on it.

She also became evasive when asked if she had ANY evidence of ANY direct National Party involvement. Again, she tried to dodge and then denied every saying any such thing. Another lie, Frog.

This certainly made Frog leap. Check out Kiwiblog and NZPundit and this thread here for a Frog being chased by Craig. Wouldn't it be easier to do this at Frogblog, Mr Frog?

A dismally foolish decision which reinforces the widely held perception that Radio New Zealand's news department is a tool of the political Left.

Will the Chairman now suspend the executive who suspended Plunkett?

What? I heard that interview, and finally a leftie didn't get away with stupid allegations. He was even rather quite gentle I must say, I would have treated her allegations, for which she didn't have any proof, a bit different.

What an idiots.

Did Helen Clark put a quick call in to the CEO of RNZ to give her mate Genetix a hand? Yesterday a pilot, today and interviewer? Goodness me, is anyone safe from interference in this country? Muldoon was very good at this sort of thing in his day. The malignant 'old boys network' stretched everywhere in private industry. Helen MulClark has perfected the art.

I never imagined they would get to this. Next they'll be shipping us off to the Sinkiang for re-education.

Blatant media censorship, & it proves what we have been saying about RNZ's agenda all along.

I hope Sean sticks to his principles as I'm sure he will.

This is simple, really, isn't it? I've just listened to the MP3. (Thanks Berend) The Greens are making unsubstantiated rumours seem like fact. Gerry is highlighting something which is known to be true. (The PSA pamphlets, etc.) Sean came down on the side of truth. It's as simple as that. Jeanette was backpedalling on unsubstantiated accusations she had made. Of course he is going to be more agressive with that.

But truth does not necessarily fit the viewpoint of smear politics.

I just heard it on the 2pm news, Phil.

What they said was that Don had previously refused to answer whether or not he'd known about the pamphlets. He's also not seen the pamphlets. Neither have I, btw.

He did know the EB were going to attack the government by doing something, but when the pamphlets came out he didn't know it was them. Neither did anyone else.

Holmes, etc.

What are you talking about, Phil?

I hardly ever watch TV. This week so far it's only been Angel at sometime after 11pm on Tuesday. Two weeks ago, I think, for a week straight I watched the begining of Campbell Live at blogged it here. That was enough for me.

When and where is the bloodbath debate? I might plug the TV in for it.
