Outright Lies #7

OCT 2008 - Please travel here for updates: Exclusive Brethren vs the Greens

The Greens are claiming the EB brochures are filled with outright lies. I'm having a look at the claims, one by one, to see how the EB may have formed their opinion.

Outright Lie #7: Ban the building of new prisons

This is definitely Green Policy. It illustrates the same naivety as the Kyoto Taxes. Because crime is caused by poor people and a rising drug problem, they are going to tackle this at the source, thus they can ban new prisons right now. They fail to convince me how, by decriminalising drugs and legalising prostitution, they can convince Labour to turn every-thing around when violent crime is on the increase and people don't even bother reporting minor crimes now. It seems that they will put artificial pressure on letting people out early for serious crimes, just to stop overcrowding. Taking the stance of banning new prison construction seems arse-about-face. What about the stance of simply aiming to lower crime, and agree prisons will be built if there is a requirement for them.

Verdict: Guilty.

Well, for the record. Fitzsimons said that this was accurate.

Good on her. But the point is the radio soundbites and MSM report the entire brochure as filled with "outright lies" as if every point is totally refutable.

In comparison to the various bclaims of the effects of National policy (from deaths at work, to more homeless, to less doctors and police etc) I find the substance of the bochure is not as innacurate as the Greens make out.

All part of the political debate. What I am seeing by the reports is the constant harping on that every-one has a right to express a view, whilst calling these guys "cultists" printing "lies"

Slanted? Afraid so.
