Kiwi Log notes something:
It may seem like a cheap dig - but does anyone else ever wonder why Helen Clark is unfailingly referred to as Miss Helen Clark by media?
I thought 'Ms' was the appropriate title.

It's Helen Clark's own preference.

Interesting. Has it stayed the same over her entire career?

It's been used for a long time. I recall DPF describing his surprise at finding it out and this was when Jenny Shipley was PM.

Perhaps because in her mind she isn't really married?

Whatever the reason it really doesn't make much odds beyond the minor inconvenience of having to remember an additional exception to our societal conventions. To paraphrase Shax: a turd by any other name would smell as vile.

Actually despite all the rumours I rather doubt anyone here *knows*. However, it is publicly known that it was never her preference to get married and that she cried on her wedding day. It would not surprise me in the least if being Miss Clark is a little act of rebellion to make the situation more palatable.

When it comes to reasons for disliking Helen the possibility of her being a ....... comes pretty far down the list.

Exactly James

It is an issue of honesty, something she has been found lacking in so many other issues.
I don't care who, or what she sleeps with, other than it being a tasty bit of gossip.
One's sexuality is not, or should not be, a bar to office or anything, but one's honesty/integrity is/should.

From what I recall her preference is no honorific at all.

But for publciations whose house stylebook insists on everyone having an honorific she has said she prefers Miss to the alternaitves.
