"Americans are losing the victory in Europe" - Life Magazine, 1946

"We have swept away Hitlerism, but a great many Europeans feel that the cure has been worse than the disease."

Make sure you read the original post on Jessica's Well. It contains links to further pages from the same issue of Life.

This turns up now and then, but never makes much headway of course. I'm sure someone will get out their Dummies Guide to War History and spell out why the comparisons are invalid, yet those with Vietnam are not. But remember, Germany is still an occupied country after 60 years, not to mention Japan. Quagmire!

No no no - Germany is actually a colony of the United States you see. A colony without colonists.

The last two comments are complete fantasy. Have either of the POSTERS even been to Germany or Japan? lol.

I think Peter is unaware of 'sarcasm'. Possibly also unable to compare authors of posts with authors of comments.

Yep, the sarcasm seems to have passed him by. Perhaps ironically he is a "broadcaster".

Oh, been to Germany but not Japan yet.

My sister used to live in Japan, but I've never been.

Won't be too rough on the guy as it looks like an honest mistake.

That's really interesting. I was wondering if the guy was pro-Soviet, and it looks like from the comments he was.

This type of shit is a continuation of what the Soviets and thier minions had been writing all through the war. Only during the it was aimed at Poland, and it was successful in that Poland was swallowd up by the Soviets and not many people even said boo.

So, I would guess more of the same, this time directed at the US to prepare for Soviet domination of more of Europe. Something happened in 1948 in Berlin with the Soviets invading or something, but I don't know much about what that was.

Why do you think I wrote...lol?

I guess a few other folks missed MY sarcasm...

Anyhow, Pro-Soviet? Once again, lol. I guess Lucyna has traveled to Japan, Germany, Italy, Laos, Thailand, Czech Republic, Somalia, Vietnam, South Korea, Afghanistan (3 times), Kuwait, Iraq (3 times), Bosnia, Kosovo, Croatia and 22 other countries...

Believe it or not, I drive a car that's been to both Korea's DMZ and the Berlin Wall (1994 Geo Prism).

In the case of Vietnam, Ho Chi Minh City is once again Saigon.
As I walked the streets of this once war-torn city, it was easy to recognize that the WEST actually won the war. If you don't believe me, go there and see for yourself. If Iraq is like Vietnam, then we've already won the war!

Sometimes, you have to actually live the pages of history! There are some things you won't find or see in either books or BLOGS.

Finally, this IS one of the best BLOGS in cyberspace!

One of these days, I'd love to go to New Zealand. But alas, there's no shooting going on there...

Peter, I wasn't talking about you. I was talking about the writer of the article in the original post, and the comments linked to in the original post. Your extensive travel experiences didn't help you pick up on that. Maybe a bit of internet travelling next time.

Trust me, there's shooting going on here. Generally of innocent victims of crime, while the crims get parole after a 1/3rd of their sentence.

Lucyna - I must admit I also read your comment wrong.

Your original comments about the original article (on the other BLOG) were right on the money. Lesson Learn!

Ok, to be absolutely clear then, when I said the guy was pro-Soviet, I was referring to John Dos Passos, who wrote the 1946 article 2 years prior to the 1948 crisis in Berlin. If you click on the link original post on Jessica's Well, a commenter says that John Dos Passos was to the left of Trotsky. Apparently he changed later, though.
