John Kerry's 180 Forms

Powerline has the scanned proof: You Saw Them Here First

The forms were obtained by a Powerline reader using a Freedom of Information Act request, not distributed by Kerry himself.

As a result of the Form 180, Kerry's Navy Department military records were released to:
  • Michael Kranish of the Boston Globe (Kerry's hometown paper, owned by the NY Times)
  • Glen Johnson of the Associated Press
  • Steve Braun of the Los Angeles Times

The Boston Globe story of 7 June stated no new material had been revealed about John Kerry's military career.

Here's the comments of John O'Neill of the Swift Boat Veterans For Truth:
We called for Kerry to execute a form which would permit anyone to examine his full and unexpulgated [sic] military records at the Navy Department and the National Personnel Records Center. Instead he executed a form permitting his hometown paper to obtain the records currently at the Navy Department. The Navy Department previously indicated its records did not include various materials. This is hardly what we called for. If he did execute a complete release of all records we could then answer questions such as (1)Did he ever receive orders to Cambodia or file any report of such a mission (whether at Christmas or otherwise); (2) What was his discharge status between 1970 and 1978 (when he received a discharge) and was it affected by his meetings in 1970 and 1971 with the North Vietnamese? (3)why did he receive much later citations for medals purportedly signed by Secretary Lehman who said he did not know of them; (4) Are there Hostile Fire and Personnel Injured by Hostile Fire Reports for Kerry's Dec. 1968 Purple Heart (when the officer in charge of the boat Admiral Schacte, the treating Surgeon Louis Letson, and Kerry's Division Commander deny there was hostile fire causing a scratch) awarded three months later under unknown circumstances.

How is this still news? Does someone's character have to be assassinated AFTER they have lost a presidential race?

Absolutely, Roger.

It's not a political attack Roger. I'm truly curious as to why he didn't release his full records during the 04 campaign.

Besides. This is the dork too many prefered to Bush.

I agree with Roger but for (probably) very different reasons.

Kerry is a loser and frankly we should just let him slide back to obscurity as a mediocre senator. Everyone knows he hid his records in '04 and the only reason I can see for doing that, given that his service was supposed to be his trump card, was that he had stuff to hide. Until we know *what* he was hiding I'm really not interested.

So long as people keep the pressure up I really don't see him releasing the records. Fine, I'm young, he's not, and the truth will come out eventually. For now I'm just grateful he's not anywhere near 1600 Pennsylvania Ave. Until then any additional proof he's hiding stuff is about as useful as confirming that Helen is a socialist control freak.

Your standards must be pretty low Kimble. I give you the new Hoover, George Bush. Or are you going to convince me otherwise? The American people finally seem to be waking up.

They did Adolf but the love affair seems to be waning rapidly. He has failed to sell his social security scam, is on the nose with them over the disaster that is iraq, completly misread the public mood over Schavio and is being humiliated over Bolton. The Republican congress it would seem is even less popular.

Havinng said that the Dems seem to have quietly rolled over and died so it probably won't mean much at all!

"He has failed to sell his social security scam," - Its a scam only if you believe that social security is safe, or if you dont care about equity in society, or if you simply dont like GWB.

"disaster that is iraq" - One mans disaster is another mans liberation.

"misread the public mood over Schavio" - So you think that Schavio thing was all about PR? Your type make fun of his "ignorant" raith, and yet refuse to consider that he acts in line with his beliefs. Either he is a religious nutter or a slave to the PR people. You cant have it both ways on this issue.

"is being humiliated over Bolton" - Name one thing the Dems and media have "revealed" about Bolton that makes him unsuitable for the role as UN Ambassador to a forum that includes representatives of oppressive, totalitarian regimes.

You gotta love it. When the Americans want a Republican in the Whitehouse it is because they are in love with him. If they vote in a Democrat, it is because they have weighed up the different policies, considered all the facts and made an informed decision.

Hey James. The problem is the people that wanted him in the Whitehouse, will wnat some else there in 2008. Bear in mind, these are the same people that voted Dean as their party chairman.

By showing the sort of person they would have inflicted upon the world, you show their judgement. If their judgement isnt sound in this part, why should people believe their judgement is sound in defense, health, education, civil rights, immigration etc?

The candidate is supposed to be the personification of the party's ideas. He is supposed to be the member of the party that shares the views of the majority of other members. If Kerry was that person for the Democrats (and if Dean is) then their ideals are in question.

Kimble, I would love to know how you compare his religious beliefs with the fact that as Governor of Texas he oversaw more executions than any other (in history?). Not sure how Christian that is.

kimble, you always know when you've got a leftie buggered. He moves on quickly to some other subject, seemingly relevant. That's why I really can't be bothered arguing with the idiots. I don't mind them turning up and oputting a point of view but they don't know when to go home. Even more so when the leftie claims to be a rightie. Its a bit like going along to a Greens conference and taking out your cold cuts of whale meat at lunch time.

Adolf it's a bit sad if you are using Kimble as an example of a quality argument.
