Cullen Chopped for Labour Tax U Turn

This morning's Herald carries the first public hint of the story which has been simmering away ever since the Night of the Long Faces - budget night.

The give away was in the penultimate paragraph.

A judicious change to his tax law to lift the tax thresholds next April instead of 2008 might be in order as the economic autumn sets in.

Sources within the Ninth indicate widespread dissatisfaction within Labour over Cullen's recent performance, especially his mega bomb of a budget and subsequently his ineffectual defense of it. He is said to lack the ability to communicate with the common man - as evinced in his convoluted piece in this morning's herald - whereas Brash and Key appear to be communicating vey effectively. The trump is being seen as a Deuce along side the Queen of Spades. (Card sharps will recognise "The Black Lady")

Commentators expect the PM to announce shortly a minor change in cabinet responsibilities. Cullen will remain Finance Minister in name only with a new Cabinet Portfolio created - Budgetary Management - and allocated to the most competent bullshit artist of them all, the PM herself. Straight out of the Muldoon manual.

The first task in her new role will be to announce that due to changes in internationally recognised accounting rules there now indeed is an $8 billion surplus and accordingly Labour will be introducing wide ranging tax cuts early in their third term of office. When questioned on the amount and extent of the cuts she will reply that these figures won't be available until National has announced it's policy but, whatever that is, Labour's will be better.

Not only that - it makes them appear even more power-hungry than ever.

As an interesting aside, Stalin used to take on the policies of his adversaries after he wiped them out.
