There's no Biz Like War Biz

A very selective opinion piece (dated today) from Douglas Mattern, President of the Association of World Citizens, an international peace organization with Non-Government Organization (NGO) status with the United Nations.

From Earth To Space, There’s No Biz Like War Biz
The latest obscenity in the war business is the decision by the Bush Administration to sell F-16 Fighter Jets to Pakistan.
Douglas, you are a bit out of touch. What about the French deal to China and the go ahead to attack Taiwan? A bit more obscene, perhaps? See Adolf's piece on Voulez Vous Couchez Avec Moi Ce Soir? And then there's the Russian deal to supply 100,000 assult rifles to Venezuela.

Then the article goes on, blah-de-blah-de-Blah, US-bad-selling weapons, blah-de-blah. Then we get to:
Lockheed-Martin, the world’s largest military contractor and perhaps the world’s most powerful corporation.
Ah, Martin, the top seven companies in the Fortune Five Hundred are pharmaceutical companies. So, how's Lockheed-Martin "probably the world’s most powerful corporation"?

One of Lockheed-Martins "sins" was to shock, horror, sell $3.5 billion worth of F16 fighter planes to Poland, which the US loaned Poland money for! And that's a bad thing? Have you looked a map lately, Martin, and seen just where Poland is? Have you noticed a huge country to the right of it that up until recently had Poland pretty much occupied? Or is that just out of brain reach for you? Or are you writing this article on behalf of that country?

This is just really annoying. Let's just leave the bad guys with the weapons and practice surrendering. Like France in WW2. Got invaded by the Germans, though. But oh well. Prize to the country with the best white flag design ...

Lets not mention the fricken Russians licensing every damn weapon they developed during the Cold War to the Chinese.

The biggest threats have to be the rusting aircraft carrier (training purposes) and Akula attack subs sold to the Navy. Akulas are ultra fast, much faster than any western sub. They can even outrun older torpedos. I can't imagine the diesel subs used by Japan, South Korea and Taiwan would stand a chance in hell against them.

The Akula's top speed is 33Kts, The American Seawolf's are reportedly faster at 35+Kts.

There are many Akulas (and many many more Alphas), the Seawolf class was cancelled with only three boats built.
