Tamihere censured

Labour has censured Tamihere but is letting him stay in the party! This situation is now approaching revolting, as Labour shows yet again it is the slimiest political creature we have seen for decades.

UPDATE @ 12:03PM - Summary points
- Cullen says Labour expects a full retraction of Tamihere's comments
- Tamihere arrived 15mins late to the caucus meeting, escorted by Horomia
- Dover Samuels on Tamihere apologising:
"I said it's better late than never. At the end of the day he's going to make his own decision but he's decided to front up to his caucus and he's rung leaders of the Jewish community," Mr Samuels said
"Attitude and sometimes smart jokes. But he's just made a grave error of judgment and he recognises that and the only way he can redeem himself is to show humility and humbleness to the people that he has wounded and hurt, including his very good personal friend Clayton Cosgrove."
More to come from this caucus meeting.

UPDATE @ 12:15PM:
One News
Newstalk ZB (they finally have a Java-free website)
Prime Minister Helen Clark told reporters that caucus has passed a resolution severely censuring Mr Tamihere for grossly offensive comments but everyone in the caucus liked Mr Tamihere.
Newstalk ZB host: "Is the Teflon Lady beginning to crack" "John has taken Labour to the wall".

UPDATE @ 12:46PM: Doesn't this sound creepy:
"John's known to stumble pretty badly and as he said last week he made the biggest mistake of his life which is damaging to him, and our concern is that it doesn't damage our party."
Because thats all that matters. New Zealanders take note.

The Herald's latest updated story (I checked it at 12:50pm) calls Tamihere a 'maverick' MP. I don't think that description will last...

UPDATE @ 1:41PM: As predicted, the Herald's description of Tamihere as a 'maverick' MP has now disappeared. I believe that is called 'stealth editing'.

The Holocaust comments gave Labour a 'get out of jail free' card. They can focus on those comments and censure John Tamihere for them. Meantime all his other comments are 'trumped' and disappear down the memory hole.

Yes agreed Andrei. Also makes it harder for the opposition parties to attack Labour over Tamihere.
