Jordan Carter caught out by media lie

Wellington Central Labour functionary Jordan Carter should have focussed a little harder when he read the Outright Media Lie this morning. After Adolf went to great lengths explaining how Brash's comment was distorted in the headline (more at Aaron Bhatnagar's blog), Carter went ahead and wrote a snarky post anyway (doesn't he read SH or AB first thing in the morning?).

Here's what Carter said:
Nats rule out another option

So Don Brash has ruled out a coalition with the Maori Party post-election.

Hmm, what is he left with?
  • ACT - who look like they won't be in Parliament, post-election.
  • New Zealand First - who are dedicated to replacing National as the major centre-right Party, and whose nationalist economic policies are anathema to National and particularly its leader.
  • United Future - a party led by a former Labour MP which is comfortably in government with Labour.
If Brash isn't careful he's going to end up not having any coalition potential at all, and National is not likely to get 47% of the vote. Very credible alternative government there, isn't it?
Except Brash actually said:
he would be happy to go into coalition with the centrist parties but he didn't think the others "are likely to be keen to talk to us."
So Brash didn't really rule out anything. Aaron Bhatnagar has kindly guided Carter towards the Truth (check Carter's comments), but we are still waiting for a retraction of some kind.
UPDATE @ 5:26PM: Carter has amended his post, sort of. In the middle of his first paragraph he's added:
Update - no, he hasn't, but crappy subeditors have. :)
