This morning the sunrise over Parekura and Marian was magnificent.

Just a wraith of cloud over Rangitoto at 0615 and then a partial eclipse kicked in. It was surreal. Twilight descended quickly and the gorgeous array of red and orange hues in the early morning sky darkened with it. Just as quickly, the colours changed back as the eclipse passed and normal service resumed.

As I walked, I couldn’t help being reminded of Labour who were heading inexorably toward a third term when out of the blue came NCEA, Wananga, and Tamihere. I’m not at all disturbed by the current opinion polls as I don’t believe they have ever been particularly reliable but it remains to be seen whether National can turn their partial eclipse into a permanent sunset for Labour. The polls are for Labour trolls.

Then a mental image of Tamihere apologising to Causus flashed across my mind. It too was eclipsed by an image of a fragrant box of little fruit cakes into which someone had placed a dog turd.
