Vatican vs Intelligent Design, Part 2

The Rev. George Coyne, the Jesuit director of the Vatican Observatory, said placing intelligent design theory alongside that of evolution in school programs was "wrong" and was akin to mixing apples with oranges.

"Intelligent design isn't science, even though it pretends to be," the ANSA news agency quoted Coyne as saying on the sidelines of a conference in Florence. "If you want to teach it in schools, intelligent design should be taught when religion or cultural history is taught, not science."

What is interesting is your link is from FOX News which is running an AP story under the headline

"Vatican Astronomer: Intelligent Design Not Science"

However the original headline from AP was

"Vatican Official Refutes Intelligent Design"

If you read the story the Rev. George Coyne is not refuting Intelligent Design at all but saying it does not fall under the aegis if Science but rather it belongs with philosophy or religion.

I subscribe to the ideas behind intelligent design but I do not think it is science in the sense of Karl Popper.

Mind you a lot of so called science is not science if you subscribe to the ideas of Karl Popper

Is it just me or is the Catholic Church slightly more liberal under Papa Ratzi?
