A Sir Humphrey's apology

Sir Humphrey's apologises to the new US Ambassador, William McCormick, who was confronted this morning by anti-war protesters at Government House where he met the Governer General.

Fifteen anti-war protesters gathered at the entrance gate displaying a banner reading "Fuck off out of Aotearoa". Another group of activists also managed to get inside the huge garden and made their way up to the Government House with a banner saying "US terrorists out of Iraq". Eight Police turned up and as a paddy-wagon arrived the group of protesters decided to leave together. One person received a written tresspass notice from Government House.
"The U.S. Government is fighting imperialist wars in the Middle East. The profiteers are multinational companies who plunder the resources of the people of Iraq and Afghanistan. Mr. McCormick, as a representative of the U.S. Government, is responsible for the daily suffering of the Iraqi people and we feel he is morally obliged to step down from his post." said Valerie Morse, member of Peace Action Wellington.
Ambassador McCormick, because Val Morse will show no remorse this site says sorry on behalf of New Zealand for the behaviour of Morse and her brainless sidekicks. If you read this blog drop us an email. I would be happy to apologise in person to you if you come to Auckland.

And, what about this Wellington peace group? Fine, upstanding individuals they are.
Members of various left wing political parties, socialist organisations, unions, other groups and anarchists, participate in running PAW.
PS: Scoop says the banner read: "US terrorists out of Iraq". It doesn't mention Iraq. It could be interpreted that the Ambassador should get out of New Zealand but this interpretation is never considered.

PPS: Considering Lyndon's comment, I have altered the PS.

Isn't it pointless to fuzz the faces as the Police/SIS will have photos of these guys anyway? Or were the photos staged in coordination with Scoop?

Thirty years ago Helen would have been with them with her banner.

Scary really

Unfortunately for the rest of New Zealand, W had his comeuppance with Helen back in 2003, after her foot-in-mouth comments regarding the Iraq war, when he politely declined to have US trade negotiators meet with the New Zealand trade representative.

He didn't need to respond to Helen's tantrum. He simply refused to reward her for it, and New Zealand is much the poorer.

In that instance, Helen was like a stubborn little girl who feels like she has to bad-mouth her parents for the sake of getting her comments in, not realising the cost, or the consequences, of her impudence.

Andrei. What do mean, 30 years ago? Why do you think their faces are blotted out. Sure as hell not to hide their teeth.

Morning all

Such brave souls hiding behind doctored photos.
You would think they might have the courage of their convictions to allow themselves to be identifiied.
Stand up for what they believe in.
Obviously they are just shameful cowards.

Gooner: Seeing as you clearly don't understand Scoop I'll explain.

That article was a press release from Peace Action Wellington. The bit at the top that says "Press Release: Peace Action Wellington" may give you a clue, along with the way the vast majority of stuff on Scoop is press releases.

Which is to say that the words, and thus any misrepresentation or otherwise of what was on the banner, were written by PAW and not Scoop.

So you gonna apologise again or what?

How does a press release become a formatted HTML page with photos correctly cropped and distributed amongst the text?

AL: Happy to indulge your curiosity...

We format press releases so we can put them on the web. Would you have us do otherwise?

Sometimes, if there's time and interesting or newsworthy photos are supplied - and judging by gooner's reaction this was indeed the case here - we chuck those in too.

Unless that was a technical question, in which case: "We have a content management system."

Speaking of which, I have work to do.

What I mean is - does NZ have some sort of digital wire service which allows such Press Releases to be correctly formatted including the cropped images and appropriate HTML tags to pick up Scoop's CSS styles. Is Scoop now so powerful that organisations develop their

Or has this particular article received loving attention from the leftists at Scoop. Or... were the Peace Wellingon people aware ahead of time the only place which will republish their posed propaganda photos would be Scoop, so they did all the formatting with that in mind.

Ahhh. OK. I don't know anything about how the press release system works in this country.

The Ambassador will ignore this pathetic lot just like the sensible citizerns of our fair land will. These protesters are cranially challenged souls who deserve our sympathy and forebearance.

We still have some laws about use of obscenities in a public place. Would someone please send these photos first, to Robocop and ask him to do something about finding these guys a new home at Ngawha Springs and second, to Winston Peters as they will assist him mend the bridges he seems so keen to mend.

Lyndon, thank you for confirming Scoop doesn't check the veracity, or otherwise, of press releases or its accompanying photographs.

Like the time, just before the election, Scoop posted a story from information 'allegedly' received from a National party 'source', that Brian Nicolle was responsible for Don Brash's email leaks only to discover your story was utterly false and you had it taken down from your site pdq after Brian Nicolle had to contact Scoop himself (yes, never asked before the 'story' was posted) and advised Scoop it was utterly false and defamatory.

Who owes who the apology?

Leaving aside the fact the message is completely wrong-headed, the choice of language is indicative of simple-minded youth-oriented thinking (a.k.a. der). It amuses me that they spent time on preparing that and hopefully other meaningless material, let's hope they were uni students distracted from their studies, causing them to fail. As long as the standard of debate remains at this level, I'll sleep well.

I'd want my face blurred out if I was caught on camera with that dress(lackof)sense. Black jeans all round, skanky boots or white sneakers(!) and the obligatory anarchists backpack (carrying Mums homemade sammies no doubt, have to get back to school for fourth period).
