Our nanny state Government has set an arbitrary annual road death toll target of 300 by 2010. The Police suggest the 10km/hr speed limit buffer will have to go
to achieve that target.
This infuriates me.
I do not like arbitrary targets set by overpaid Wellington wankers who are chauffered to work every day.
I do not like it when our Government acts like an overzealous control-freak Primary School teacher punishing an entire class because of the stupidity of the minority. Retardedly aggressive (normally young male) drivers are not known to follow the road rules. I see these types literally every day on the secondary major roads in Auckland. They ignore the present speed limits, sometimes by 20-30km/hr. They cut in front without warning. They tailgate. They are too dumb to calculate the chance of a speed camera snapping them or a cop waiting around the next corner. They won't care if the speed limit buffer is removed.
I do not like it when stupid beauracrats think people dying on one dangerous road in Canterbury has any relevance to the speed limit in suburbs of Auckland.
I do not like it when the "target" includes deaths caused by mechanical failure, pure coincidence, driver exhaustion, or driver intoxication. None of these deaths could reasonably be addressed by lowering the speed limit.
But most of all, I do not appreciate Labour Party nanny statism making my drive to work even longer. I spend 25-30mins travelling each way on Auckland roads to get to work. That's 50-60mins per day. The speed limits on those roads are 50km/hr or 60km/hr, but most people travel 10km/hr faster due to the speed limit buffer. I have never witnessed a serious traffic accident along any of those routes. Lowering the speed limit cannot possibly have an effect on a ZERO death toll. If the buffer is removed, my total travel time could possibly extend by 10-15mins per day. I do not like sitting any longer in my car because of stupid socialist interfering wankers.
