Jimmy Massey, hero of the anti-Iraq left, is a fraud

Jimmy Massey is a former US Marine who claims his unit regularly committed atrocities in Iraq.

Unfortunately for Massey the St Louis Post-Dispatch had two reporters embedded in the same Marine unit, resulting in this story:
Massey's claims have gained him celebrity. Last month, Massey's book, "Kill, Kill, Kill," was released in France. His allegations have been reported in nationwide publications such as Vanity Fair and USA Today, as well as numerous broadcast reports. Earlier this year, he joined the anti-war bus tour of Cindy Sheehan, and he's spoken at Cornell and Syracuse universities, among others.

News organizations worldwide published or broadcast Massey's claims without any corroboration and in most cases without investigation. Outside of the Marines, almost no one has seriously questioned whether Massey, a 12-year veteran who was honorably discharged, was telling the truth.

He wasn't.

I think what you mean is "Iraq CAN be turned into the new Vietnam".

The only problem this time is the US military is a bit more clued up, the majority of Iraqis have a vested interest in making their new system of government work, and there's no Soviet Union to write blank cheques for the "insurgents".

etc. I've gotten tired of listing the differences.

Even the accidental killing of a non-combatant tends to send shock waves through the involved unit. The plausibility of someone like this depends almost entirely on the fact that all most people know about actual combat comes from bad movies.
