The future for France

This is the best summary I've seen about the French riots so far...
I'd also note that the changes necessary, were they actually to be contemplated, are probably economically and culturally impossible because the French economy is in no shape to respond to the problem and culturally I'm not sure they yet understand they have a race problem. The economic aspects of the problem will take decades to address, and the race aspect even longer. The question is, does France have that sort of time?
To which the answer appears to be...
Desperate apologists for France's apartheid system claim that the present uproar is merely about youthful anger, that Muslim fundamentalism isn't in play. Just wait. Islamist extremists aren't stupid. Thrilled by this spontaneous uprising, they'll move to exploit the fervor of the young to serve their own ends.

Expect terror. Whether the current violence ebbs tonight or lasts for weeks to come, the uprising of the excluded and oppressed in the streets of France has only begun.
I was going to write something like that, but don't need to when someone else does it better. Whatever the true causes of these riots are it is nothing but fuel for the fire of the various groups recruiting from the people that the French have systematically ignored for decades. It's taken decades for them to arrive at this point, it will take decades for them to fix it. They'll try to console themselves that the US managed to recover from race riots, but back then the black rioters weren't attracted to a murderous and zealous movement that had already scored several "victories" and offered deliverance with revenge. You have to look a bit further back in time to find those types of situations.

Chefen, there is no turning back. Muslims do not want to be part of French society. They do not want to become frenchmen. It's not that the French have ignored these people, they might perhaps, but these people want to be ignored. It's part of the deal. They've setup their enclaves all over Europe, because they do not want to integrate.

Well I don't know if I'd consider these rioters your average conservative Muslims.

They sound more like Nazi types - crappy lifestyle, incredibly racist, chauvinistic, think they're being oppressed by an active conspiracy, poor, unemployed.

Al - I'm inclined to agree with you for now but don't forget that your description neatly matches the kind of person who could easily be indoctrinated by radical Islam. The radicals know this, have noted the weak response of the French government, and will doubtlessly be recruiting and preparing for the next time. If they are "Nazi types" then we need to ensure this doesn't become their Munich Putsch, ie. the prelude to the big event.

I agree JamesP.

Unfortunately it won't take long to organise Islamo-fascist groups using the Internet and cellphones. The Nazis were at it for many years before they became powerful enough to gain seats in the Reichstag, but that won't be the case this time around.

Meanwhile media idiots ignore it like this is some sort of rightwing fantasy. Small minded little fools.

As Chefen says, the causes of the riots are economic and "France's apartheid system". This is what has been reported.

Its up to the rest of us to speculate on what is going to happen now.
