Two more on-the-scene reports from Iraq

First, Michael Yon on the Iraq Constitution vote:
Until that day, I’d been skeptical about Iraq. Not fashionably cynical, merely skeptical. We could all hear what the US President, the UK Prime Minister, and other elected leaders were saying, but they are politicians. We also could hear the end-of-the-Iraqi-world predictions by so many others who were counting the Iraqis out. But nobody really knew what the Iraqi people had in mind, and the Iraqis were the people who counted most.
And a very long feature on Iraq - from Car and Driver Magazine (via Tim Blair):
At 2:24 a.m., after finding my "ride" with Lt. Josh Carter's four-Humvee escort patrol, we rolled out of Baghdad International Airport, headed for the more-or-less "secure" Green Zone downtown—something that was once roughly akin to our Washington, D.C., but is now mostly bombed into submission. It's only about a 10-minute ride under normal circumstances, but "normal circumstances" don't exist in Baghdad. This eight-mile former freeway is the notorious "Route Irish," a gauntlet of barricades, checkpoints, detours, and unannounced route variations through open and hostile territory. It is a fertile area for IEDs—"improvised explosive devices"—that may be buried in potholes, packed inside roadkill, wired to guardrail posts, or hung from palm trees. The possibilities seem to be endless.

See three big bombs went off outside the Palestine hotel in Baghdad? What does it mean when "insurgents" start blowing things up next to the media hotels?

They're dumb "insurgents"? OR - and I'm going out on a limb here - they're terrorists who don't give a crap about whom they kill so long as it scares people away from Iraq.
