New RLW Website

National Radio are spruiking for RNZ's new website, linked above. I've just been for a poke around and I must say it is very good. Everything you ever wanted to hear again is kept on for seven days. What a boon for defamation lawyers.

I listened again, carefully, to the Nne to Noon interview with Chris Harrington. The interviewer was pretty pathetic. Someone by the name of Eva Radich who went to the same elocution school as did Mary Wilson from Checkpoint. They both drop statements into mid air and the poor bugger being interviewed is supposed to realise they are actually questions. This is one of the most irritating interviewing non-techniques there is, apart from continually interupting.

I digress, Back to TVNZ's Mr Harrington. He twice asserted that bloggers are not covered by defamation law. Wrong. He three times asserted his work had been 'stolen' by a blog which used the slogan 'cogito ergo blog' thereby identifying Keablog as the target for his venom. ''Stolen' is a very strong word indeed. Before he got his dander up Harrington used the word 'appropriated' which I guess being a big word sounds more impressive. However, my Concise Oxford dictionary defines it as 'taken for one's own use without permission.' Most people would call that 'stolen.'

There was some reference which I did not fully comprehend to an ongoing complaint against TVNZ under the BSA concerning this particular story. The whole thing is well worth a listen for those who are interested in jounalistic goings on.

Ironically, it sounds as though when the facts of the matter eventually come to light it mightl turn out that TVNZ stole the story from Keablog who had been working with the source for some considerable time before Harrington and his gang of Inspector Cluseau's turned up.
