Fmr French representative on the UN Security Council held for questioning

Arrested by a French judge investigating Oil-For-Food:
PARIS (AFP) - Jean-Bernard Merimee, France's former representative at the UN Security Council, was taken into custody by a judge investigating corruption linked to the Iraqi "oil-for-food" programme.

Merimee, 68, was being questioned over allegations he may have benefited from oil allocations granted under the programme by former Iraqi president Saddam Hussein between 1996 and 2003.

Merimee was France's UN ambassador from 1991 to 1995. He was then named ambassador to Italy, and from 1999 to 2002 he was a special adviser to UN secretary-general Kofi Annan on European issues.
Here are the five other people under investigation by the same judge:
They are Serge Boidevaix, former secretary-general at the French foreign ministry; businessman Claude Kaspereit; Bernard Guillet, an adviser to former French interior minister Charles Pasqua; Gilles Munier, head of an Iraqi-French friendship society; and Palestinian journalist Hamida Nana.

The 'Palestinian journalist' is actually Syrian-born Hamida Na'na, owner of the Al-Wafaq Al-Arabi periodical and author of a biography on the Saddamite former Deputy Prime Minister Tariq Aziz. According to papers published by new Iraqi paper Al-Mada after the US invasion, Na'na received vouchers for 1 million barrels of oil from Saddam's Iraq.

A full translated list of the recipients of Saddams oil vouchers is here. More here.

Note George Galloway/Nawwaf Zuraiqat is listed as receiving vouchers for 19 million barrels of oil.

The Top 10 list of recipients from Russia are as follows (numbers refer to barrels of oil):

1. The Russian State 1.366 billion
2. Zarubesneft 174.5 million
3. Russneft Ampex 86.9 million (for the office of the president, including 1 million to Mr. Tetzenko, Russian Ambassador to Baghdad)
4. Communist Party Companies 137 million
5. Amircom (Unity Party/ Ministry for Emergencies) 57 million
6. Mishinoimport 1 million
7. Al-Fayco (Russian Foreign Ministry) 128.8 million
8. Yatumin (Russian Foreign Ministry) 30.1 million
9. Slavneft 25.5 million
10. Zan Gaz 49.1 million

How much per barrel did these guys get to sell them for? These were the fellows who continually vetoed any firm action against Saddam by the UN? How will Ackers1, RB, tristan and all the other leftists spin this one?

My understanding is many of the individual recipients could only onsell the rights to the oil, they didn't directly gain for themselves the revenue. However as you may have noticed - many of the recipients are companies or have government connections.

Yes, Al, but with all this corruption on such a grand scale, our Liar-Bour party leader will feel at home.
Perhaps she should take Philip Field with her.
