Be wary of lesbians requesting sperm

Now this is just dumb...

- Swedish man donates sperm to lesbian couple in the early 90s.
- Three children are born to the couple from this sperm, from 1992 to 1996.
- Later, after pressure from the women, he signs an affadavit admitting paternity.
- Shortly after the women separate.
- The woman who bore the children sued him for child support (NOT her separated partner).
- The High Court agreed, he must pay for the three children, the judge said that the fact he was tricked into signing the affadavit was irrelevant and he is the legal father.

So, as a lesbian couple you have all the legal rights of everyone else, including bringing up kids, but you can also stiff some poor sucker because he's a male and only males can be fathers.

How bloody stupid can the law be?

Swedish man *donated* sperm. Maybe a good lawyer could work with that?

Mind you, that's beside the point. All "gimme gimme gimme" but no responsibility. This is what a socialist upbringing creates.

How the children came to be is irrelevant apparently (it was AI). The fact is he is the biological father and they managed to get him to admit paternity before they split. So, unlike the first time round, he is well and truly screwed. I have no idea what the law here is about lesbian "paternity", or the equivalent, in the case of separation but it is hard to see how the other woman gets off with absolutely no responsibility.

I agree - it's very hard to see. What's the bet any access rights would be blocked too?

The only thing to do is to pay for the Judge to end up on a drunken night of revelry, meet a hooker, extract some sperm during the exchange, and then front up with a paternity suit a year later, having onsold the said sperm.

Or was the judge a women? A scorned one...

Most likely the way the law was written didn't leave the judge any option. Wouldn't surprise me if drafters of child support legislation had left out consideration of sperm donors to lesbian couples.

Sorry I can't resist but only a wanker would donate sperm. Don't they have some sort of confidentiality arrangement? What would happen to the poor bastard if he found that he had inadvertently fathered 132 children, you know, like Big Julius, prize Friesian bull who fathered 43,242 calves by way of 'ai'? Oh the paternity of it all!!!!!

Well if they can get the judge to "meet" a hooker that'll be enough. Prostitution is illegal here, so he/she would be in jail anyway.

But, the news reports don't say who the judge was. I think High Courts here have a panel of judges to decide cases. They are also very by-the-book and have a different attitude to Anglo-style law making and precedent setting by courts.

Prostitution is illegal in Sweden? Surely not.

Yep, illegal for both prostitute and customer. Has mostly driven prostitution off the streets and out of brothels... onto the internet. If you want to buy it these days you find some hookup site and arrange a meeting. Police also bust these but it is a bit more difficult.

Funny, NZ legalised it to protect the women and Sweden criminalised it to protect the women. Somewhere something is not quite fitting...

"stiff some poor sucker because he's a male" is probably an unfortunate turn of phrase, but I would have thought Sweden had some sort of socialist state solution for this situation. Please don't tell me that in a socialist's utopia, there is no support for males ... ?? Bugger.

On the other hand, if you're that stupid perhaps you should pay.

He is the father. You can't deny that. It was his sperm. His problem.

The only problem society might have is that these three kids have his genes. But who knows, let's hope they turn out fine.
