The Greens are outraged an EB pamphlet has printed outright lies about their policies. I'm digging through these claims to try to figure out why the EB may have got the impression they did when looking at Greens policies.

Outright Lie 2: Increase petrol and diesel taxes
The Greens are quick to explain they are not going to increase the taxes on diesel, they are simply going to deny the current tax exemptions, which err, actually increases the diesel taxes. Wow. That makes all the difference doesn't it? The price goes up by adding taxes to it, but they aren't going to tax it. They must be spending a lot of time with Cullen.

And petrol taxes will go up, but guess what. Because they are going to rebate all NZ'ers $15 per week (except beneficiaries) it will balance the cost of increase. But they can't explain how they worked out the increase in petrol and diesel costs add up to less than $15 per week, given that food is trucked all over the place using diesel.

Verdict: Guilty.
