German Invasion of Poland - Today in History 1939

At dawn on September 1st, 1939, almost two million German troops crossed the Polish borders from three sides to launch the start of what would become World War Two. Hitler's order for the attack was to kill without mercy all men, women and children of Polish descent. To that end civilian populations were deliberately targeted.

Lucyna, have you heard Henryk Gorecki's Symphony #3, "Symphony of Sorrowful Songs"?

In the second movement the soprano sings a prayer found scribbled on a cell wall in Gestapo headquarters at Zakapone.
