Hurricane Katrina

With Katrina expected to make landfall within the next 5 hours (before 1am NZST), I thought it would be useful to start an entry for collecting news and discussion about the impacts of Katrina. No doubt AL and I will update this article with more links as events unfold. I hope as many people as possible have managed to secure themselves, because you can't run or evacuate when a hurricane is bearing down on you...

Linked article is CNN home page.

Update: -
Katrina has now made landfall (CNN) - landfall made to SSE of New Orleans, MS expected to feel most impact
Oil hits USD$70/barrel (CNN)

"the biggest natural disaster ever to hit the United States".

I sure hope they're wrong about that.

It's been downgraded to a Category 4.

But even a Cat 4 is very strong, and LA will suffer more than say FL which has stronger buildings (because they suffer more hurricanes), and New Orleans in particular lies below sea level. Right, I must get back to work...

Yep. Oil prices are going to spike again as the Gulf platforms had to be evacuated.

Katrinaville home to Hurricane Katrina refugees and survivors alike in the United States of America. The President of Katrinaville is none other than George Bush who in his wisdom has allowed the people to starve and has brought shame upon the worlds once greatest nation. He can take care of the people in Iraq. But when it comes to his own he is without a doubt clueless in his inability to bring to this nation a sense of peace. When he himself has only crusade in mind.
