Galloway to go on anti-war tour of US with Jane Fonda

In another other sane universe, this would just be some sort of pathetic joke,
George Galloway, the anti-war MP for Bethnal Green and Bow who rocked the US Senate earlier this year, is to be accompanied on a speaking tour of America by the actress and activist Jane Fonda.

Few things are more likely to antagonise US conservatives than the combination of Mr Galloway and Ms Fonda - still hated by the right because of her outspoken opposition to the war in Vietnam - joining to condemn the American presence in Iraq. But Mr Galloway can expect a thunderous reception from those he impressed with his performance before a Senate committee last May.
I don't think it is just "the right" that has a low opinion of Hanoi "does this AA gun between my legs turn you on" Jane and it is just a tad rich to call her actions "outspoken opposition" is it not? And anyone impressed with Galloway is, to put it bluntly, one of Orwell's implicit fascists. Good grief, what happened to sanity people???

This is The Independent you're talking about, which used to host anti-semitic discussion forums.

I don't think you ever get to the actual truth concerning matters like this until you drop the left-right analysis. To me, that dimension is completely irrelevent.

Is it possible for example, that these people might actually have a point, even tho they are lefties?

My point is, normally, a thinking person writes lefties off on the grounds they're fucked in the head. However, these are not normal times and the issues we are talking about are not normal issues.

I suggest that for certain issues such as the subject of this post, if you ignore the fact it comes from a lefty and have a look at the objective evidence, then sometimes (not always), it turns out there is something behind it. And I'm talking more about patterns than about any particular instance or event. For example, I look not at Sheehan but at the entire dynamics behind the significant and growing anti-war movement, of which Sheehan is but one small but presently significant part.

Maybe some readers take similar views, and others don't. I certainly don't claim this gives me any great perspicacity, I just wanted to make the point that on these subjects, I find the left-right dimension to be more of a hindrance than a help in obtaining the actual, factual, as-is truth.

I thought we had already sorted this thing out - that it was Ronald Reagan that supported Saddam and not Galloway?

No Reid, I write off Galloway because he's an antisemitic prick and I ignore Jane Fonda because she provided aid and comfort to North Vietnam and is now voluntarily associating herself with Galloway.

Gosh AL, what were the other options available to her. To support a war she knew in her heart was immoral and wrong. She did no more than millions of people of her generation and funny thing is history has proven her right.

Even McNamara has come out and said that it was basically a civil war and the domino theory was incorrect pertaining to Asia.

Gosh Ackers, considering several prominent members of the North Vietnam war effort have published comments saying they pushed for a US pullout from South Vietnam rather than a peace deal because of the US anti-war movement, Fonda and her like contributed to the loss of Vietnam and the subsequent imprisonment of (who knows) Vietnamese and how many hundreds of thousands fleeing their own country?

They knew theyd won if the USA withdrew, and thats what they were fighting towards.

Gosh AL, what were the other options available to her.Gee let's see, how about NOT agitating for the other side. There is reasoned dissent and there is as batting for the other team.

She did no more than millions of people of her generationBwa ha ha ha. So how many millions of others were touring NV during the war, sitting atop AA guns aimed at her own countrymen, turning in POWs who tried to get information to her, illegally attending "peace talks" with the enemy, organising Winter Soldier projects, ... oh, yeah literally millions of those guys.

and funny thing is history has proven her right.
What, that a vocal fifth column can destroy a country?

Really, what is the urge to defend this woman?
