Kids Not Silly

Have some confidence not all youngsters are as silly as Labour thinks. I chatted to a friend of mine this morning about the Labour election bribe. This fiend has two kids who have just graduated, one with Llb and B Com the other with B Health Science, both on salaies of $30k. The family is pretty much politically neutral, being not much fussed whether National or Labour run the show. Both kids have student loans, one was $22k and the other $14k

I asked her "What do the kids think about Labour's student loan interest write off?" I was amazed and gratified to hear the answer which was the opposit of the one I expected. . "They think it is a disaster. Loans will go through the roof, and no one will pay them off." In fact they are shit scared if they stay in NZ they'll be paying off everyone else's loan interest out of their taxes. They are seriously upset about it. Apparently these two have worked their buttes off to pay off most of their loans before they finished uni because they think it is not a good thing to owe the government money.

The first question I have is why are we being fed so much bullshit by the media about how long it takes to pay off these student loans? We are fed the sort of crap which would have you bepieve student loans are paid off like fines for dope possession. Five bob a week over thirty years. That's nonsense. Here are a couple of kids who have knocked $30k off their student loans over two years from part time work. Sure they were living at home and had no rent to pay.

Tell you what, there is no way they will be sitting around on their arses on a DPB blogging all day.

And despite it all, where would you feel safer being surrounded by plainclothes policemen - London or Sao Paulo?

Just pop over to the website of Amnesty International - that well known far-right gang of Islamophobic Bushistas. I'll wait.

Well, thats nice for those that can sit at home and don't have to pay rent, wow I wish that was true, for me all my parttime work money goes into me surviving and trying to live. Not that I agree with Labours policy, It is a me me me policy. I think it is appropriate at this time to quote one John F Kennedy...different topic but very valid in these circumstances.."Ask not what your country can do for you, but what you can do for your country" All the ppl who are going to support this policy are those who are greedy and thinking about themselves, but the issue here is that it is going to screw the economy, and result in a ballooning of Student debt as more people borrow and only repay minimum amounts why would you try to pay it off early when it isn't costing you anything to have it. Ok so this has become quite a long comment...I will be blogging on this at NZ Parardigm tonight as well as an update on Bill English at Victoria University today.

Maybe we should rephrase it in light of the lefties myopic vision:

"Ask not what your country can give you, but what you can give your country"?

Good Call Gooner, I have made quite a long post on this on NZ Paradigm, and found some links back to other stories, I shall continue looking for more.

Good point Adolf,

I was talking with somewhat politically neutral people last night and they were saying much the same thing.

We all need to give students some credit. After all a lot of them are intelligent people that are capable of working out the consequences of Labour's policy.

Yes Mike you are right....I posted much the same thing refering to Bill English being at Vic today and the response of the students to what he had to say.
