contemplate the quirk of fate which gave New Zealand Michael Cullen and America Michael JacksonAnd the last Free For All lasted well into the weekend and got a bit serious. Roger, behave yourself this time.
129 Comments:
Yeah ligthen up people.
Lets talk about Helen being asked to play herself in the Lion, the Witch and the Wardrobe.
she might need some makeup and maybe grow her hair a bit longer.
Over her face would be my vote.
By the time she manages to do that, she'll be booted out in the election. Can't wait!
And then the trial!
No more police and AG in her pocket.
Oh happy day.
Ok, in line with my update, something interesting about myself ... would be: I used to play AD&D for years, and even DM'ed a Dark Sun campaign. A while back now, kind of lost interest when I had kids.
AD & D. Sorry, I'm not a muso. Dm'ed a dark sun campaign? WTF?
Empire of the Petal Throne. D&D was the new fly by night game that would never catch on back then.
Ooo look, a civilian!!!
Heh it isn't D&D but I still get together with friends and rolepay most Wednesdays. Great escapism.
Oh, dungeons and dragons. I remember. I played soccer.
Bah... jocks!
Something interesting 'bout me? Um, er. I'm totally immodest so can't pluck up the courage to 'boast'.
And DM'ed is Dungeon Mastered. There was a brief conversation about me being a Dungeon Mistress, which I quashed very quickly.
It's not boasting, Gooner. It's just ... making you more than two dimensional, person that only exists on the screen.
Interesting. Dosen't have to be a boasting thing.
My ears are uneven.
One more firing up that compiler, and then it's time for Babylon 5!
O yes, and some Johny Walker red label whiskey.
Okay then, I used to be a Policeman.
OMG, I used to watch that, Berend.
And boy did I see some sights!
O.K here's something interesting about my childhood. I used to live on Nebraska ave in Washington DC.
In the same house once occupied by JFK when he was a Senator.
Ok, here I go. I just read on www.michaelmoore.com that ten Senators (all Republicans) did not vote for a bill apologising for lynching or some such thing. Showing their true colours, or an aberation? Originally there were twenty Republican hold-outs, but the number has reduced to ten.
And to think, that this is the party of Lincoln, etc etc.
Shameful.
Link here: http://www.michaelmoore.com/mustread/index.php
Who amoung us will defend these men? This should be interesting.
Hmmm, that could be interesting ... sights, Gooner?
Wow, Coge.
What do you roleplay, David?
Cool Coge. I almost froze my d... off in Bulgaria once. Went skiing there when I was living in UK and it was -20 on the piste BBrrrrrr.
lucyna, I've never seen that. Just saw the first movie last week. That was quite disappointing, but it seems the series is way better.
So what are y'all drinking tonight?
Guinness for me, need building up after my 3yo gave me his cold.
$11.95 a four pack at pack n save.
Water.
Free.
Tap.
Green tea :(
Friends don't let friends blog drunk!
Baileys. Though I've got to stay mostly sober, both my kids are really sick .. throwup duty calls from time to time.
Yes, the series was great, Berend. Most of it. Towards the end it got a little over the top.
Roger, sorry, nothing serious until you've shared something.
Yes, Lucyna. I've up to my armpits in tandem vomiting before. Hope they haven't got the flu.
Apparently the Hong Kong flu is doing the rounds. Perhaps someone could ask Winston what his policy is on this.
Back on the D&D: Please tell me you guys don't dress up for it! I've only ever played once myself (didn't dress up) but got hold of a copy of baldur's gate 2 and spent far too much time with it. Though I get the impression that D&D computer games to the purist are a bit like baseball to a cricket lover.
ANOTHER Asian import!!!
Grupenfurher Von Peters will be going nuts.
I dress up, but not for D&D!
The rolepaying is not through a commercial game, but just a system created by the guy who DMs it. It is similiar to the old D&D.
But it is very much about having fun, playing your characters true to life - ie sometimes deliberately doing stupid things, with the focus on the character interaction, not on "winning".
And no, no costumes. Just lots of red wine.
Any opinions on ACT's TV3 poll rating? Personally I feel the average ACT/National voter will actually take the time to travel to a polling & vote. Whereas your average leftie is not as statistically inclined to get off their ar** and vote.
So the TV3 poll, however it was taken, may be inaccurate.
Am I alone in this opinion?
coge, although I've some doubt that the support for ACT is that low, it is of real concern that ACT doesn't have a large core vote as the Greens have.
No coge, but it's getting to the stage where a lot will have to travel, scarily at that stage. A huge shame if we don't make it. A bloody tragedy actually. I am very optimistic by nature so will never give in until the polling booths close.
I've just regained by sanity by watching the Leauge of Gentlemen Christmas Special ... the Vicar slashing into the snow and making a snowball it, throwinging it and knocking santa off his sleigh was priceless!
I am still very confident that Act will get back in. I have great faith in Rodney's ability, and the ability of the whole campaign team, especially Brian Nicolle. I think Act will get between 6 and 8 percent.
Brian is a star roger, no doubt. And the most selfless man I know. I too believe ACT has about 3-4% core support so don't understand the polls. I am confident too roger, but would like to be 6-8% right now so I can sleep better. As a list candidate I will be very nervous on the hustings and would like a 'buffer'.
Be confident in your vision, Gooner, that the principles and values that the Act Party stands for are the principles of the right and the virtuous. Never waiver in your conviction that you are standing for a cause, that you want New Zealand to be the country that it can be, and work harder than you ever have before, because our children depend on the efforts of yourself and every person like you.
Balder's gate, I rememeber that. I think it might have been based on a book, or maybe on an actual campaign.. I never played the computer games, since my job is basically at the computer, I try to get away from it to relax.
I liked the social interaction that I got with AD&D. Though, I ended up getting really sick of pizza and coke and chips, because that was the standard fare of our games. I think we might have eventally progressed to beer as well, but it's really hard to remember. It was like another life. Never dressed up, though I would have liked to. I did paint a whole lot of those tiny metal figures.
Coge, I think they have got the flu. It started with sniffles and stomach upsets and throwing up right after the vaccinations (which they didn't get) ... they got better, but it kept going with coughing and now a couple of weeks later it's high temp, coughing, throwing up and my 4yo has just told me his ear hurts. It's just so bizzaire that they are both sick.
Roger, I thought you were a leftie?
Paul, you've just reminded me, I want to see that movie. The last one I saw was "Arthur" on cable. Good sword fighting.
roger,
Have you had yourself tested for multiple personality disorder? First quoting from michaelmoore.com, then inspiring words to Act supporters, and then last week banging on about Saddam Hussein's rights under international law?
We right-leaning types generally don't like Michael Moore or international law. If you really are an ACT supporter, did you not get the memo?
Are you having us on?
I think ACT will get in too. Rodney just has to do more interviews. That's what swayed me, I heard him on the radio a year ago, just after he had become leader.
You assumption of my political persuasion was incorrect, Lucyna. I am a free thinker and do not stick to one rigid doctrine of thought. When I think the right is deserving of criticism, I criticise.
Auther blew ropey goat chunks.
Back me David.
But, Lancelot, Murray, did you not see Lancelot? * Sigh *
Free thinker .. mmm ...
I do believe in them roger, have done so since 1996 when i joined, it is in my heart now, i speak from that when i espouse the priniples,no need to resort to rhetoric (although my opponents will say they are one and the same). My conviction wil never waiver roger dodger.
Hey, how do you refresh the comments window to get the updates without refreshing the page?
Lancelot???
He was the worst part!
Auther, he was the worst part too.
The knights of the slightly assemetical table, they were the worst as well.
Guinevere, she was... well she wasn't the worst... but what the body paint all about???
A classic comic would have been a better basis for a script.
Press F5, Gooner.
Guinevere annoyed me. There is no way IRL she would have been able to do what she did in that battle at the end, it didn't look believable. She just didn't look strong enough. Should have stuck to archery.
Lucyna, sounds like you're having a time of it. Get the 4yo's head up on a pillow to relieve pressure to his ear, it should help him to sleep. Keep 'em off dairy products. Remember to look after yourself as well!
They should have not made that lemon.
There's enough on the list already.
Troy. Alexander the Lemon, Kingdom of Lemon, Hitchhikers Guide to the Lemon.
Does noone outside of Wellington know how to make epics any more?
I'm lost.
Indeed, same actors, but what a difference a good script makes.
I know someone else who liked it, Murray. Maybe it's a woman thing?
Gooner, F5 is a button on your keyboard, on the top. It refreshes the view. If a refresh doesn't occur, hold down the ctrl key, and press F5. That forces a refresh whether it thinks you should do one or not.
Coge, my kids are both allergic to dairy, but they do get small amounts from time to time. Evil cocoa pops that got bought with their dad last week will have to go. I'll have to find out if there's the kindy is feeding my 4yo bread with milk products for morning tea.
Well since i was raised on the classics this sort of thing is just... wrong.
If PJ had treated LOTR in the same throw away manner the Tolkien fans would have hurt him.
Total off topic question. does anyone know where I can get silicone rubber and low-melt metal for casting?
I'm making belt plates for lorica segmentata.
You can learn about socialism by watching Yogi bear. "Don't feed the bears". They become fat & lazy, unable to provide food for themselves. As I suggested earlier, this will ultimately manifest itself in their voting propensity.
The problem if socialism is abruptly cut off, was demonstrated to me on a TV doco some time ago.
It showed what happened when some Alaskan bears had been allowed to forage at a rubbish tip unchecked for a length of time. When the tip was fenced off, the bears became quite ferocious at having their food supply cut off. Apparently they were completely unable to adapt back to their previous existance.
Lucyna, I knew the F5 thing. I was lost in the thread of the conversation! LOL
I haven't seen any of those other movies, including LOTR .. I just don't want to sit down to a 3-hour movie. Too long!
LOL, oh good, Gooner. I've just come across so many people that don't know the basics that I never assume anymore, just start from the begining. I used to train people on how to use software, and the first part was generally on computer basics. Don't like training.
Spotlight seems to have lots of crafty stuff, Murray.
Coge, the bear analogy is good. Except the bears in our case get to vote every 3 years. But they're not as bad as the people defending the bear's "rights" to food. Grrr.
Ok - I have read all the comments, and obviously haven't been drinking enough tonight
BTW - is Roger behaving himself?
Roger, from what I've been reading, and I don't actually *know* because I don't follow the republican party, is that the republicans aren't what they used to be. But, like with many organisations, they are made up of individuals, not clones, so maybe those republicans didn't vote for the apology bill because of "true colours" or maybe because they didn't want to open up the gov't to litigation. I don't know.
As for thinking you were a leftie, I originally didn't think you were, but the way you were acting screamed "leftie" to me.
So far, docjok.
Well Lu, he can't be both a 'leftie' and a free thinker. They are mutually exclusive. Someone will have to decide
Well I think he thinks he can critisise anyone and get away with it. Such is the nature of "free thinking", which to me seem un-anchored thinking. But we shall see - maybe Roger, you'd like come back and empound?
Bah! that was Expound, not empound .. lol! I'm sure blogger changes the words!
Maybe, but critisism is not all bad - I have just had a lot of fun on my blog tonight with socialists and Michael Laws
Thought I would drop in over here and see what was happening
I just read your post on moles, it was good! I agree, critisism is not all bad. It's just that there are consequences depending on how the critisism is done.
You are right there - if anyone finds out my real identity the Stasi could come a get me
Hah! Once they get into their time machine!
But you are right - if you are going to critise in blogs you have to be able to take what is inevitably and rightly going to come your way. I suspect that is a concept that your average 'leftie' has some trouble with. Hence my comment about 'lefties' and free thinking being mutually exclusive
Having read your previous Polish blogs I knew you would enjoy the Stasi comment (sadly most people in NZ would have no idea what I was talking about)
Which is why they will be all the more surprised when people with heavy German accents start knocking on their doors to enquire about whether they smack their kids or not
Well, more likely Swedish or Norweijan, I would guess.
Just had throw-up incident. I've lost track of how many tonight. My 4yo doesn't seem to realise when it's about to come over him and the bed or the floor gets it half the time. Blah. Actually, my 8yo has got the bed and himself and the floor as well today. Double-blah.
Maybe even Russians, gotta watch out for them. LOL! No, actually the Russians will just send advisors to the gov't on the best way to go about it.
Throw up incident's been there, done the time. My wife and I have a great routine (very useful at 3am). She looks after the kid - clean up, comfort that sort of thing. I deal with the linen and the sick, and clean up that part. Works well, and means you a alseep again in the shortest possible time. Teamwork . So you have my sympathy
What are you doing blogging when you have sick kids - rest while you can!!!
Waiting for them to finish throwing up so I can go to bed. My 4yo, I think, might have all the banana out from earlier in the day. Don't know why, but this is the 2nd time hubby's on a trip overseas during major illness. Blah.
So who wants to pay another 39c/lt for petrol so the greens can feel good about themselves?
I thought they had the 'leaf' to help them feel good about themselves, doo they need money as well?
After Labour cocked up Kyoto to the tune of a billion bucks they do.
Hey Lu, you have my deepest sympathy -absolutely no fun on your own. I hope he brings back flowers or chocies or something for you. Any way - time to turn in. I hope the rest of the night I not too rough. I have enjoyed the blogging tonite
They won't feel good until no one has a car. And all the "rich" get all their money redistributed.
Thanks docjok!
Murray - its only a billion bucks. After all the other billions they have flushed down the toilet in the last 5 years what are you worrying about
night all
In the meantime global warming has resulted in... thickening ice shelves, lower mean temperatures and the oceans have risen by a big fat ZERO inches in the last ten years.
What a crock of mumbo jumbo.
I'm seeing more and more people out of gas by the side of the road, scratching their electoral heads.
In fact we'll be seeing horses on the roads again if Labour stay in power...
See what I mean about letting friends blog drunk.
No we wont, they might fart.
That's if you drink the expensive stuff - ie gasolene...
I understand the meths boys are gonna have to resort to ethyl alcohol if there isn't some tax relief soon.
MIGHT fart - there's more flammable gas in the Beehive than there is down on the farm!
And horses produce far less carbon monoxide than combustion engines, I believe...
Funny how everyone spazes out about shania Twains house being "visual pollution" for being to high and three fet too far to the left but suddenly we all love the idea of hundreds of windmills all over the country side.
"We?"
I believe its that the rich detest being 'out-riched', and the tree-huggers hate contemplating the power solving source of Nuclear fission.
The total failure of the US Navy to suddenly explode in port tends to really screw with their paranoia.
It's more to do with being anti-American than any real concerns about nuke power. Every hospital in this country emits more raditation than half the Pacific Fleet.
I think it was fear at becoming a target of external aggression... I mean, it WAS pussyfoot Lange that introduced it...
My "theory" is that it was a way of changing alliances.
Evening all - Stella in hand.
No sick kids and I've got no idea why we got Micheal Cullen and not Micheal Jackson.
However I did get chased by a bull once in central Uckland and was on Police stop for it.The bull lost.
Allah protect us
Hi Prophet! A real bull?
Yep - Truck over turned on Harbour Bridge and 1 damaged bull made back up the motorway to the cook st offramp.
I was at work when I saw 2 cops with guns run past. Looked over the road at the ACC workshops and saw what I thought was a cow running around. Could see how it was going to escape the cops so thought I would give them a hand. ( This 2pm Tues arvo)
Met the 'cow' under this overpass thingy about 5 metres apart when he saw me and I saw she was a he. He had a big flap hanging off his side and didn't look very happy. There was a TV3 cameraman on the overpass above us. The bull stamped his foot once and charged me. I turned and ran for it to a pile of rubble about 50 metres away and the TV guy got it all.
On the news that night , police stop the next week and then a friend rang me from New Orleans and said I was on the TV over there.
My 15 seconds of fame.
Poor bull got shot by ADS but in 7 shots poor bastard.
Allah protect that poor bull
