Clark interview with Newstalk ZB political editor

Political editor Barry Soper asked no hard questions at all about Tamihere's comments on the Labour Party, and instead allowed Clark to frame the entire issue as 'right wing parties bringing up dirt' and 'homophobia'. Does Clark think anything negative about her or her leadership is now 'dirt'?

Soper even let Clark get away with comparing Hide's reading out of Tamihere's comments on Labour's supposed homosexual network (etc) as comparable to Winston Peter's allegation of Jim Peron being a paedophile. Is paedophilia comparable to homosexuality now?! (correct me if my interpretation is wrong).

Essentially Clark insinuated the fallout from the Tamihere interview is the fault of Rodney Hide and some vast right wing dirt machine. How simple the world is when you are peaking out at it from the 9th floor of the Beehive. But I don't think Tamihere is going to be sweeped neatly under the carpet. Memories of Turia's public humiliation will no doubt be strong, and he will be very careful to avoid a similar situation. We will see tonight if he's come through with a retraction and public apology, or if some other deal has been reached to shut him up.

Soper should not have let her frame the issue as homophobia on the part of Act and National, when it is a member of her own Party who uttered the remarks in the first place. What a ridiculous situation. Soper is a serious candidate for biased reporter of the week.
