AL's take on Tamihere

I've heard many of Tamihere's comments from (mostly older white middle-class married) men (especially the 'butch wimmin controlling Labour' stuff), so clearly hes voicing what a lot of people actually think.

Such men (at least the two I asked) are swing voters, firm believers in the old 'seesaw' model of New Zealand politics. Vote one party out and the other in every six or nine years, depending on when the party in question lets power go to its heard. Tamihere has sent them a clear signal.

The fact Tamihere hasn't yet resigned (unless its forthcoming during the 6pm News cycle) suggests he does in fact have substantial power behind him in Parliament, just as he claimed in the (nearly sober) interview. According to Hide, Tamihere is being asked to take a holiday (hopefully not the 9mm holiday preferred by the Soviets), further evidence that Tamihere has something solid behind him.

Rodney Hide suggested Siberia, Helen probably said Sweden.

I think the brainwashing clinic is there.

Actually, I thought a lot was a measured parcel of land having fixed boundaries and designated on a plot or survey.

Still, it's important to get these things right.
